Getting Ready For Summer - Buying Sunglasses!

There are three factors you must consider when buying sunglasses. First and most important, sunglasses are for protecting your eyes against harmful UV rays. Sunglasses offering limited protection can actually be more harm than good. Secondly, your sunglasses should feel comfortable. Finally, you want sunglasses that look good on you.

Price does not always dictate function. Often sunglasses costing a few dollars offer better UV protection than those costing many dollars more. Purchase sunglasses you like that looks good on you. Make certain, however, to get glasses with high UV protection rating.

What you are looking for is a pair of sunglasses that have 100% UV protection. Sunglasses labeled polycarbonate have 100% absorption, and glasses marked CR-39R plastic are about 88% effective.

If you spend a lot of time on the water, snow, or you spend a lot of time driving then it is best to choose a polarized lens. The polarized lens reduces the reflections of light off water, snow and highways while reducing glare.
